#07 Did you know?

#07 Did you know that building a battery gigafactory in Europe is substantially more expensive than in Asia?

Check out how below!

While the vision for a carbon-neutral Europe is clear, the financial reality of building its backbone is complex. The capital required to launch a gigafactory in the EU far outpaces global averages, largely because we are battling high operational overheads and a localized skills shortage.

This disparity creates a ripple effect: as long as European batteries remain more expensive to build, the continent remains tethered to overseas supply chains, making true energy sovereignty feel like a moving target.

So how can Europe bridge this cost gap and make local production commercially viable against global giants?

By developing scalable, efficient, and cost-effective production methods, the HyLiST project is designed to integrate seamlessly into European industrial landscapes:

  • Developing high-throughput processes that reduce energy consumption and operational costs, making European gigafactories more competitive.
  • Creating scalable methods that can be easily transferred to current European industrial facilities, lowering the entry barrier for local production.
  • By pioneering advanced manufacturing for Solid-State Batteries (SSB), we are fostering the specialized skills needed to sustain a high-tech battery industry on home soil.

By focusing on the “how” as much as the “what,” we are ensuring that the future of European mobility is not only developed here but is also economically sustainable and manufactured right in our backyard.
