The transition to solid-state battery (SSB) technology has officially moved out of the research lab and onto the open road. Today, automotive giants like Mercedes-Benz and Stellantis are already actively road-testing prototype vehicles equipped with SSBs. Notably, early real-world trials from Mercedes-Benz show that these next-generation batteries can unlock an immediate 25% increase in driving range compared to standard configurations.
 
This is where HyLiST steps in.
 
Building directly on this massive industry momentum, HyLiST is bridging the critical gap between early laboratory scale successes and commercial reality. As a Horizon Europe-funded project, our core mission is to scale up and transition these advanced Generation 4b solid-state lithium-metal batteries from lab prototypes into industrially relevant, multi-layered “pouch cells”. Proving their repeatability and long-term performance under rigorous testing protocols is exactly how we will secure large-scale adoption across the sector.
 
Our focus is clear:
 
  • Perfecting a highly stable, cobalt-free high-voltage cell chemistry (LNMO paired with hybrid polymer solid electrolytes).
  • Transitioning technology directly onto semi-automated pilot lines to prove that manufacturing is viable for a future 1 GWh industrial uptake.
  • Providing robust, digital twin-optimized manufacturing concepts that mitigate risk, boost yield, and drop pack-level costs toward 75€/kWh by 2030.
 
By transforming how multi-layered solid-state cells are designed, validated, and scaled, HyLiST is empowering European industry to lead the global clean mobility race.
