#10 Did you know?

#10 Did you know that solid-state batteries (SSBs) are being explored for high-altitude and aerospace applications?

Check out how below!

The global push for zero-emission flight is facing its toughest engineering challenge: finding energy storage systems that can withstand the skies. In the aviation industry, solid-state batteries (SSBs) are currently being explored for high-altitude and aerospace applications. Thanks to their superior safety margins and unmatched energy density, SSBs represent the ideal energy source for specialized airborne use cases, paving the way for the future of electric aircraft designs.

This is where HyLiST steps in.

HyLiST’s objectives are dual-focused, targeting both road and aeronautic applications simultaneously. The project is dedicated to meeting the incredibly stringent requirements of the aviation industry, which demands extreme energy and power capabilities alongside long cycle life under harsh operational conditions. By engineering cells capable of matching these standards, HyLiST is working to accelerate the development of electric flight.

Our focus is clear:
  • Developing cleaner, safer, high-performance, and cobalt-free battery chemistries capable of high-C-rate discharge (up to 10C) required for aviation applications.
  • Moving SSBs from laboratory prototypes to industrially relevant, multi-layered pouch cells via automated pilot lines to prove process repeatability.
  • Providing robust, digital twin-optimized manufacturing methods that lower costs and de-risk early prototype production for specialized transport infrastructure.

By transforming how next-generation multi-layered cells are designed, validated, and scaled, HyLiST is positioning Europe at the forefront of the electric flight revolution.
