#11 Did you know?

#11 Did you know that while solid-state batteries (SSBs) are incredibly promising, they still face major real-world hurdles?

Check out how below!

The laboratory promise of solid-state batteries (SSBs) is undeniable, but transitioning them to the open market reveals steep real-world challenges. Today, the single largest hurdle blocking the commercialization of SSBs is mass production. The required assembly and synthesis processes are deeply complex and incredibly difficult to scale up efficiently, which is precisely why these next-generation systems have not yet made their way into mass-market commercial vehicles.

This is where HyLiST steps in.

HyLiST is specifically engineered to confront and solve this exact manufacturing scalability barrier. In fact, our project’s full title: “Hybrid Lithium Metal-based Scalable Solid State Battery Manufacturing”; explicitly highlights our core focus. We are developing advanced processing and assembly methods that are not only highly efficient but specifically designed to be easy to transfer directly onto existing battery manufacturing infrastructure across Europe.

Our focus is clear:
  • Formulating single-ion hybrid polymer electrolytes and composite cathodes that balance elite electrochemical performance with ease of processing.
  • Transitioning from bench-scale grams to multi-layered, multi-ampere-hour pouch cells using semi-automated pilot lines to achieve pre-industrial repeatability.
  • Providing low-risk, easily adaptable production pathways that protect capital and seamlessly bridge the gap to a future 1 GWh factory layout.

By fundamentally rethinking how next-generation batteries are processed and scaled, HyLiST is removing the manufacturing bottlenecks and clearing the runway for Europe’s sustainable industrial future.
