#06 Did you know that China currently controls over 80% of the global market for key battery components?
Check out how below!
The harsh reality of the energy transition in Europe is that the continent’s major battery supply chain relies on foreign countries. China controls more than 80% of the global market for critical battery components today, from the refining of raw materials to the production of cathodes and anodes.
This is not just a logistical challenge for Europe but a serious geopolitical and economic risk that makes the goal of battery independence harder to achieve.
So how can Europe protect its energy future and protect its industries from disruptions in global supply?
HyLiST is not only advancing technology, but also creating a resilient local battery supply chain from the ground up by developing and scaling advanced manufacturing processes for Solid-State Batteries (SSB) and pioneering cobalt-free chemistries:
- Reducing global dependencies by bringing the production of high-tech battery components back home.
- Transition to the LNMO (Lithium Nickel Manganese Oxide) cathode, a high capacity, cobalt-free alternative, to reduce the monopoly of the outside world.
- Diversifying the materials roadmap so that we do not stall our green transition by lack of access to specific critical minerals.
By stimulating innovation on our soil and reducing our reliance on foreign-controlled materials, we are ensuring that the future of European mobility and energy is developed, manufactured and secured in Europe.
