Following the icy trails of our winter meeting in Tampere, the HyLiST consortium traded the snowy Finnish landscape for the sun-kissed, coastal beauty of San Sebastián, Spain. From the 28th to the 29th of May, 2026, the HyLiST consortium reunited for an incredibly dynamic 3rd General Assembly, which included two days packed with fresh discoveries, strategic pivots, and immersive hands-on experiences.
The energy was palpable right from the opening remarks with the help of our hosts from CINETEC, Andriy Kvasha (Solid-State-Battery Team Leader at CIDETEC), Kevin Vattappara (PhD student at CIDETEC), and Lukas Haneke (Researcher and Electrochemistry at CIDETEC). Guided by our project coordinator, Meisam (Sam) Hasanpoor (AIT), the assembly quickly established its core theme: strength through alignment. As our discussions progressed, it became clearer than ever that the foundation of HyLiST rests on three pillars:
- Transparent communication that bridges the gap between different work packages.
- Agility and adaptability when navigating the complex landscape of next-gen battery tech.
- A unified vision to position Europe at the forefront of sustainable energy storage.
Stepping into our second year, the focus shifted from foundational milestones to real-time evolution, marked by several key breakthroughs.
- Breakthrough Findings & New Headings: The technical sessions were buzzing with excitement as partners unveiled the latest data on our 4b Generation Solid-State Batteries. We didn’t just review progress, we actively charted new headings to optimize our roadmap for the automotive and aviation sectors.
- The Exploitation Strategy Workshop: Moving from lab innovation to market reality requires a foolproof strategy. Andreia Santos (Senior Innovation Project Manager at F6S Innovation) spearheaded an interactive workshop dedicated entirely to Exploitation. This hands-on session made the consortium look at the Key Exploitable Results through a commercial lens, ensuring our scientific breakthroughs are primed for real-world industry adoption.
- Going Behind the Scenes: A standout highlight of the event was a fascinating tour of the local facilities, hosted by Andriy. Walking through the CINETEC laboratory gave the entire consortium a firsthand look at the rigorous, behind-the-scenes engineering fueling our project.
If Tampere proved that we have a “goal-oriented mindset,” San Sebastián proved that our communication is our greatest superpower. The seamless alignment between partners during brainstorming sessions showed that HyLiST has evolved into a remarkably cohesive force. Innovations that change the world are never born in isolation, so leaving Spain, the team carries a renewed momentum, sharper market strategies, and the collective spark needed to accelerate Europe’s clean energy transition.
