HyLiST for all: What is lithium metal "Li" and how is it applied in HyLiST?

HyLiST´s innovative approach seeks to deliver a cobalt-free Solid-State Battery based on (LMNO|HSIPE|Li) cells for automotive and aeronautic industries. But… what does it mean? Let´s break down the main concepts, step by step.

The “Li” in the context of these advanced batteries refers to a Lithium metal anode. The anode is the negative side of a battery, and it’s where the lithium ions are stored and released to generate an electrical current.

For decades, batteries have used materials like graphite for the anode. While effective, graphite has a limited capacity to store lithium. A pure lithium metal anode, in contrast, offers the highest possible energy density. This means it can store significantly more energy in a smaller, lighter space.

Using a lithium metal anode is the ultimate goal for creating high-performance batteries, especially for applications like electric vehicles and aircraft where a long range and low weight are critical.
